Quest of the Chubby Tigers in the Land of Yummy

If there was ever a way to describe how two individuals came together on a project, it would be best to refer to the old parable of a group of blind men who had never seen an elephant before, were asked to describe an elephant. Each of the men in the group touched a different part of the elephant like the legs, the trunk and the ears. Their descriptions were, limited by the part of the elephant they were touching.

We start with this parable because in many ways, it adequately describes our relationship with food and the sense of “Yummy.” Some of us value certain flavours, while some of us just treasure the experience of the people we dine with. Sometimes, the yummy is simply about being in that particular place at that particular time. If you want to talk about the “Yummy” experience, we’re all like blind men feeling the different parts of the elephant.

The Chubby Tigers platform is going to be the place where the blind men get to join hands to discover the complete elephant. This is the place where we look into what makes something “Yummy.” We visit the places that are Yummy. We meet the personalities behind the places and Yummy and the people who produce the Yummy and of course, we delve into the dishes that we all adore. The Chubby Tigers on this quest of Yummy are:

Tang Li, a social-political blogger who spent nearly a decade working part-time in a French/Italian Bistrot and a Vietnamese/Korean restaurant. Entering the food business was never something he planned but somehow, he became a part-time worker that many of the customers assumed owned the restaurant. For him, restaurants became a place which represented how the social contract worked. He sees the food business as being all about memories, the places where you go to for special occasions like an engagement. The experience for Tang Li became personal on two occasions – namely the time an army friend insisted on hosting a family dinner at the restaurant. Then there the guest who came all the way from the USA because someone from his school told him that he needed to see him.

The other Chubby Tiger is Ms. Genia Wee a passionate foodie who describes herself as being about “+65SG❤️food.” Genia is the proud owner of the “shiokafoodie” brand on Instagram.

For Genia, the love of food started at the tender age of 10, when she had to cook for her siblings while her parents went out to work. However, it was only in around the year 1999 when she started exploring food at Tiong Bahru Market and Outram Park Char Kway Teow before the enblock at Block 28 Outram Park. Genia is a passionate hunter for good food to satisfy gastronomic cravings.

While the Chubby Tigers platform is currently a work in progress, the Chubby Tigers have been busy in their Quest for Yummy. In the first week of generating the idea, they were busy helping the personalities behind 123 Zo launch their Jumbo Pho, bringing foodies and bloggers to taste the culinary delights of Central Vietnam as presented by 123 Zo.
